Pregnancy & Exercise
A common attitude that exercise is potentially harmfull to the unborn
child during pregnancy, exists still today. Dr. James Clapp III wrote a
book " Exercising through your Pregnancy" which presents a more
progressive approach to exercising while pregnant. He confirms, that
exercising while pregnant is not only safe, but also beneficial for both
the mother-to-be and the unborn baby. The benefits of maintaining an
exercise program during pregnancy include:
- Limited weight gain
- Less physical discomfort
- More energy
- Easier, shorter, less complicated labor
- Quicker recovery
I found it an excellent book and a wonderful source of information
during my pregnancy.
Pregnancy and Nutrition
Keeping you and your baby well fed is fortunately not very difficult.
By following the following guidelines, you will be assured of supplying
both you and your growing baby with the nourishment required to remain
healthy.
- Eat a variety of foods
- Maintain a healthy weight gain (25-35 pounds) during pregnancy
- Choose foods low in fat and cholesterol
- Eat Plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains
- Use sugars only in moderation
- Use salt and sodium in moderation. Avoid processed foods.
- Do not drink alcohol.
My 3rd pregnancy Journal
I will try to keep a journal during my third pregnancy. I will record
my moods and body changes that I notice and what exercises I still can or
can't do and which exercises I modify.
During my first pregnancy I mainly used my regular workouts that I
modified at the end. I did buy some special pregnancy workouts, but found
them to be too easy, even at the end of my pregnancy.
But please know that everybody is different. Just because I can or
can not do certain exercises, doesn't mean you can or can't do them
either. As always consult with your physician and use common sense.
