The ONE exercise you must do!

By Michelle Biton

If you're having trouble getting motivated to exercise - here's a 2 for 1: some motivation to get you started AND the perfect exercise to start with!

Wondering which exercise I'm referring to?

Well, if you guessed KEGELS, you're right. Kegels are THE most important exercise a pregnant woman can do.

Why? Because they help keep your pelvic floor muscles TONED and TIGHT. Trust me, you DO NOT want to be losing control of these muscles!

By toning your pelvic floor muscles, you'll be LESS LIKELY to: tear your perineum or need an episiotomy during delivery; develop hemorrhoids; or have urine leakage when you sneeze or cough. You will also be MORE likely to have an EASIER birth!

Are you starting to feel motivated yet? Good!

So, now that you're motivated - HOW exactly do you do a Kegel? If you haven't already heard, the best way to practice is to try stopping your "flow" mid-stream and holding it for a few seconds (note: do this only once or twice to get the "idea", it is not recommended that you do this on a regular basis!).

You goal is to be able to do your Kegels while sitting or standing several times a day. Trust me, a little prevention can go a long way and your efforts WILL pay off!

And some EXTRA tips ...

  • NEVER go to the bathroom "just in case" (I am THE WORST when it comes to this!), it will only lead to weak bladder control. So don't do it - especially those of you who need to go more than once before going to bed at night!
  • NEVER squat (even in public toilets!) - this will NOT allow you to empty your bladder fully. For good bladder control, especially if you have problems with leakage, ALWAYS empty your bladder fully!
  • DO your Kegels as soon after delivery as you can!

For LOTS more TIPS on specific exercises you MUST do now to prepare for an easy labor and quick post-partum recovery (including weight loss), plus all kinds of great food and skincare tips (including how to prevent the pregnancy mask, stretch marks and varicose veins), read my kit at...
