My Pregnancy Journal - Week 13

I think I finally am getting my energy back. I feel I can stay awake
for most of the day.
Had the first appointment with the midwife this week. Everything
seems to be fine, we got to hear the heartbeat for the first time!
Always an exciting moment. We'll get to see the baby on an ultrasound
next week.
Is it SAFE to work the Abs?
One of the most common questions I receive is - "Can
I work my abdominal muscles during pregnancy?"
It's a good question - but one that does not have a
clear answer. Because there are so many different opinions out there,
even from the experts, it's important to have all the facts so you can
make an informed decision.
I found an article by Michele Biton (personal trainer) about this
subject. Personally I do not do ab work after the first trimester, I
didn't do it when I was pregnant with my son either and even then I had
problems because my abdominal muscles were so tight.

My workouts this week:
I found that as of this week I can not lie on my stomach anymore. It
just feels too uncomfortable. So I had to modify the Superman exercise
from Muscle Max. I did the exercise on all fours, and alternated one arm
and one leg at a time.
I could still do Tae Bo Boot Camp without modifications and I was
surprised that even though I haven't been working out as much, I still
find this workout to be of intermediate intensity. I am glad that I
still seem to have some cardiovascular endurance.
