Do you feel like a supermodel or a beached whale?

By Michelle Biton

Do you feel like a pregnant supermodel or a beached whale? If you’re feeling like a supermodel, consider yourself lucky - most pregnant women do NOT naturally feel sexy! In fact, I’d say most pregnant women struggle with the changes going on in their body, especially those extra pounds.

Which brings me to my next question: How OFTEN do you weigh yourself?

Being in the body image industry, I KNOW that a lot of women become obsessed with their daily (or sometimes even twice daily!) weigh-ins. What I didn’t realize was just how many women continue to do so even during pregnancy – sound familiar?

As normal as it is to want to check out the increasing numbers on the scale, it can also be very damaging. All of a sudden the number on your scale becomes your “mood” dictator, which in turn often affects HOW and WHAT you eat for the rest of the day!

This kind of behavior is what’s called the “DIET MENTALITY” – an extremely dangerous way of thinking. Why? Because pregnancy is definitely NOT the time to be limiting the amount of calories you consume during the day.

It’s SO important to be in touch with how you feel during your day, including being able to be sensitive to your hunger levels and to eat accordingly. Women working with a Diet Mentality cannot and do NOT do this!

So What’s the Answer?

It’s simple and easy – do NOT weigh yourself daily. In fact, if you can, leave the weighing to your doctor!

(Actually, a friend of mine told me that in Australia, doctors don’t even weigh their patients – lucky Australians!)

If you find it difficult to control yourself, my best advice would be GET RID OF YOUR SCALE! You may even begin to feel quite liberated with your newfound freedom.

If you’re feeling “big and bulky” (which is totally normal!), the BEST SOLUTION is to get out there and do some daily activity (if you’ve been give the OK by your doctor) – it will really help.

In addition, eating a well balanced, healthy diet (refer to my book for information on HOW to do this!) will also make you FEEL a lot less anxious about your extra pounds AND most importantly, it is THE best gift you can give to your baby :)

For LOTS more TIPS on HOW to avoid gaining those extra unnecessary pregnancy pounds, including learning exactly which exercises you can safely do now that you’re pregnant, and which foods you must eat and which you need to avoid (as well as HOW to work with your cravings), read my kit at... www.pregnancywithoutpounds.com/thegoods.htm
